Health Literacy Manual

An important question that is often asked to me at the end of a health literacy awareness session is 'What can I do to improve health literacy in my health setting'. Every outpatient and inpatient practice is different. Each setting has its own strengths and weaknesses. There is no one solution for each practice. In order to use time and effort efficiently, each practice has to identify its own health literacy related problems and barriers and address them.

This manual provides a step by step approach to identifying the communication barriers between providers and patients with low health literacy and use available tools to address it effectively.

Some parts of the manual are password protected. If you want to access them, please fill out the form at the end of the page and a password will be sent to you. This manual is being revised so if there is a change you will be informed about it via your email address
